Structure of "the Story of an hour"
Structure in a short story can be defined as the plot of the story.
In the short story "The Story of an Hour", the author uses the plot of the story as his structure. The story begins with Mrs. mallard receiving the news about her husband death due to a railroad incident. At first grief takes a hold of her but as the short story progresses, Mrs. Mallard realizes that she now has an unspoken freedom that she did not have when her late husband was alive. She now has the ability to do anything she desires and this brings tremendous joy to her. The plot of the short story takes a turn towards the unexpected when Mrs. Mallard husband comes home unaware that their was a railroad accident to begin with. Seeing her husband alive and well sends Mrs. Mallard into a heart attack, ending the short story. |
