Setting/ atmosphere in "the story of an hour"
Setting is the location and time of a story. Atmosphere is the emotional effect that a location of the event.
The short story "The Story of an Hour" takes place in Mrs. Mallard home, then in her room. The atmosphere in her room was dull until she realized that now she was free and full of new opportunities. This is seen when she looks out the window and sees the tree with their new spring life. It is also seen when she takes a breath of fresh air which taste like rain. She could hear a distant song which reached her faintly, and the countless sparrows that were twittering in the eaves gives us a sense of inner peace. Visually the sky had patches of blue showing in certain places. The author uses all of these vivid imagery to show the atmosphere that Mrs. Mallard was seeing as her realization of freedom was becoming more and more apparent.
